Visa fee
€90 per adult, €45 for a child aged 6 to 12. Visa centre fees come on top.
When to apply
No earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before departure.
Processing time
Usually 15 days, up to 45 days if the consulate needs a closer look.
Travel insurance
Mandatory, with at least €30,000 cover for emergency care and repatriation.
European Commission rules. Check them with the consulate of the country where you will spend the most time: it handles your application.

- Recent passport photo meeting the standards
- Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
- Travel insurance with at least €30,000 cover
- Accommodation booking or invitation letter from your host
- Return flight booking or travel itinerary
- Recent bank statements showing funds for the stay
- Proof of ties to your home country: employment contract, employer letter, school certificate, property title…
No visa guarantee: the consulate decides. A complete and consistent application remains the best way to avoid an avoidable refusal.

Which consulate should I apply to?
The consulate of the country where you will spend the most nights. If the lengths are equal, the consulate of the country through which you first enter the Schengen area.
I have been refused before. Can I apply again?
Yes. First understand the reason given in the refusal letter and fix the weak point of the application. Appealing the decision itself is a matter for a lawyer.
Is an invitation letter enough?
No. It replaces a hotel booking, but the consulate looks at the whole application: your funds, your ties to your home country and whether the trip makes sense.
Can I study with a tourist visa?
No. Studies longer than 90 days require a long-stay study visa. That is what our study support for Belgium and Romania is for.
